"Tuko" means "we are here" in Swahili. This journal is about the experiences of the Dziedzic Wright family (David, Kristina & Nadya) while tuko in Kenya.
David is an archaeologist embarking on a new research project in the Lake Turkana region of northern Kenya thanks to a National Geographic Society Explorers Grant. Kristina is an artist and curator who works with contemporary artists in East Africa, especially those referred to as jua kali (Swahili, "hot sun") because of the informal, outdoor setting in which they generally work. And Nadya is their 3-year old daughter.
The blog began when we were in Kenya from December 2007 until March 2008 and resumes after we returned again in December 2008.
